For Israel Abrams, the five-star quarterback at Montini Catholic in Lombard, Illinois, the numbers aren't a coincidence—they're the product of a deliberate, disciplined approach to the game that started before he ever took a snap under center.

Abrams began his football career on the offensive line at five or six years old, playing left guard before transitioning to quarterback around age seven. That early experience gave him something most signal-callers never develop: a genuine understanding of what linemen face on every play. "I give all linemen credit," he said. "Especially my guys. I appreciate them." His coach echoed the sentiment, noting that Abrams could realistically play any position on the field.

The path to becoming one of Illinois' top prospects wasn't without resistance. Abrams was told repeatedly he was too small, too slight, that Division I football wasn't in his future. Rather than dismiss the criticism, he absorbed it. "That powers me," he said. "Negativity and turning it to positivity." His junior season answered the doubters directly—MaxPreps named him the Illinois Player of the Year after he added 10 rushing touchdowns to his 40 through the air.

"I love being smarter and better than the person I'm across from," he said. "That's how you get to 24-0. Not an accident." His coach describes him as poised under pressure, coachable, and fully invested in the program—present in the weight room and at every workout alongside his teammates.

Faith is central to how Abrams processes his success. His father is a pastor, and that foundation keeps football in perspective. He credits the relationships and opportunities in his life—coaches, trainers, family—as part of a larger plan. "I wouldn't be anywhere in life without the Lord," he said. "He drops people into my life. All glory and thanks."

Abrams has committed to the University of Miami, where he intends to compete immediately. He chose the Hurricanes based on what he believed was the best developmental situation for him and his family, not roster depth charts or transfer portal activity. "I'm a competitor," he said. "That's mine. I want to get down there and pick it right back up." His coach, who calls him the best he's seen in his years of coaching, believes the mindset that produced a perfect record at Montini will translate. "He's poised for success," he said. "He's stepped up to every challenge. Special for sure."
