Brady Edmunds: Huntington Beach QB and Ohio State Commit
Southern California has a long history of producing blue-chip quarterbacks, and Huntington Beach High School's Brady Edmunds is the latest name on that list. What makes his path to the top of recruiting boards unusual is where it started — not on a football field, but on a basketball court.
Edmunds grew up convinced his future was in basketball, a sport his father played at the junior college and NAIA level. He didn't line up at quarterback until eighth grade, after spending his early years as a tight end. Once he made the switch, the results were hard to ignore. Now a senior, Edmunds is in his fourth season as the starter for Huntington Beach and entered the year with more than 8,600 career passing yards.
At six-foot-five and 220 pounds, Edmunds has the frame that draws attention from college scouts. But he's quick to point out that physical tools only go so far. He operates in what he describes as an NFL-style offense — something rare at the high school level — and believes the mental demands of the position are where quarterbacks are truly separated. "The windows get smaller and smaller," he said, describing the progression from high school to college to the pros. "It's not easy to be a college quarterback. You have to handle it in your head."
Several Power programs extended scholarship offers, but the decision became clear the moment Ohio State came calling in the summer of 2024. Edmunds' grandfather is from Ohio, and the Buckeyes have been a family passion for as long as he can remember. "I did a 180," he said of the moment he received the offer. "I knew where I was going to be. Nowhere else felt like home."
