Kamden Lopati | West High School QB Commits to Michigan
From wide receiver to one of Utah's most productive dual-threat quarterbacks, Kamden Lopati's path to the top of the depth chart at West High School in Salt Lake City was anything but conventional. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior spent time learning the game from the other side of the ball before stepping in under center — and he credits that experience with shaping the complete player he is today.
The numbers from his junior season speak for themselves: 2,671 passing yards, 34 touchdown throws, 730 rushing yards, and 10 more scores on the ground. Lopati also competes in track, focusing on the 100 meters, and says the sprint training has added explosiveness to his game on the football field.
West High has risen alongside him. The Warriors went from a 6-6 record two seasons ago to an 11-2 mark last year, and Lopati believes this year's group has the talent to go even further. He's spoken openly about the program's identity — a diverse, tight-knit roster that plays with a chip on its shoulder.
On the recruiting front, Lopati was a priority target for the University of Utah before decommitting from Illinois and ultimately pledging to Michigan. When head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff made the move to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines became a natural fit. Before he heads to the Big Ten, though, Lopati has one more chapter to write in Salt Lake City.
