Trent Seaborn: Hawaii-Born QB and Thompson High Star Commits to Alabama

October 20, 2026
Thompson High QB Trent Seaborn earned MaxPreps Freshman of the Year in 2023, won three state titles, and is committed to Alabama in the 2027 class.

From flag football on the north shore of Hawaii to the heart of Alabama's recruiting class, Trent Seaborn has taken one of the more unlikely paths to becoming a top quarterback prospect in the country. The Thompson High School signal-caller was still in eighth grade when he saw his first varsity snaps at one of Alabama's most decorated programs, and he hasn't slowed down since.

Seaborn earned MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year honors in 2023, then followed that with All-American recognition as a sophomore and junior. He's helped the Warriors capture three state championships, adding to the three Thompson had already won before he arrived. "There was a standard to upkeep," Seaborn said. "I was in middle school, a team I want to be a part of. Made the most of it."

His football roots trace back to Oahu, where his father signed him up for flag football at age four. A natural feel for the quarterback position caught the attention of coaches early, and he eventually trained under a coach who had developed some of Hawaii's most prominent players. That connection led him to the Tagovailoa family, and Talia Tagovailoa — who attended the same high school — has remained a mentor, QB coach, and close friend. "He's a brother to me," Seaborn said. "Took me under his wing."

The Alabama commit is following a path Tua Tagovailoa helped carve. Seaborn said watching Tua win a national championship in Tuscaloosa planted the seed early, but his decision ultimately came down to fit. He'll enter a competitive quarterback room as part of the 2027 class alongside fellow commit Elijah Haven, a dynamic he embraced after the two roomed together at the Elite 11. "Me and Elijah are roommates. Got to know each other. Amazing person and QB. It's going to be a great process," Seaborn said.

Away from the field, Seaborn plays saxophone and has a long-standing passion for Legos — a hobby he said mirrors the way he thinks about football. "Like football, you put bricks together... hundreds of them, and the finished product is amazing," he said. "I like to build stuff."
