Penny Hardaway rose from humble beginnings to become the nation's top high school player in 1990 before his NBA career.

Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway has transitioned from NBA star to high school coach, now leading Memphis East High School's basketball program. Raised by his grandmother, he learned perseverance from an early age.

Hardaway emerged as the nation's top player in 1990 while at Treadwell High School in Memphis, scoring over 3,000 career points. He went on to star at Memphis State University, leading the Tigers to the Elite Eight and earning All-American honors before being selected third overall in the 1993 NBA Draft.
