Marcus Smart, the backup point guard for the Boston Celtics, has had quite the journey to the NBA. Growing up in Texas, Smart was a highly decorated high school player, winning the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year award twice at Flower Mound Marcus high school. In his three varsity seasons, Marcus high school only lost six games and won the state championship twice.
Smart's basketball success was complemented by his commitment to giving back to the community. He frequently organizes basketball camps, using his platform to inspire aspiring young athletes with his encouraging words.
However, Smart's path to success was not without challenges. As a troubled youngster, he experienced the loss of his oldest brother and struggled with anger management issues. Despite these obstacles, his life took a positive turn when he and his family moved to Flower Mound, Texas in eighth grade. It was there that he found a close bond with his former high school teammate, Phil Forte, approaching a brotherly connection.
