Ireland Real | 6'4" Outside Hitter & Texas Commit | Sports Stars of Tomorrow
Southern California has produced some of the nation's top volleyball talent for decades, and Ireland Real is the latest name to add to that list — though in her case, the name itself tends to stop people mid-sentence. The 6'4" outside hitter from Santa Margarita Catholic is one of the highest-rated recruits in the country, and her game backs up every bit of the attention.
Real comes from a family built for the sport. Her father stands 6'8" and played collegiately at Lewis, while her mother — who played at Kansas — is 6'1". Real tried soccer and basketball before volleyball took hold in fourth grade, and by the time she reached her junior season, she was the best player in her division. She was named CIF Southern Section Division II Player of the Year after leading Santa Margarita Catholic to the Division II championship — a title she helped secure while battling illness.
Her impact extends well beyond the high school gym. Real has earned three gold medals competing with USA Youth National Teams, including two with the U-19 squad and, most recently, a gold at Pan Am Cup with the U-23 team. Her coach describes her as a natural leader whose presence draws teammates to compete at a higher level.
Real will graduate in December and head to Austin to play for the University of Texas — a decision she said became clear the moment she stepped on campus. With Olympic aspirations and a national title on her list of goals, her trajectory points well beyond college.
