Journey to Greatness: Brandon Roy
July 21, 2018
Brandon Roy is now the head coach at Garfield High School in Seattle, where he was a prep star. He was an All-American at the University of Washington and an NBA All-Star with the Portland Trailblazers.
In this week's episode of "Journey to Greatness," we meet Brendan Roy, a local legend in Seattle and a basketball icon. Before becoming an All-American at the University of Washington and a three-time NBA All-Star with the Portland Trail Blazers, Roy made a name for himself at Garfield High School. Reflecting on his basketball journey, Roy recalls his fondest memories of playing high school basketball, particularly his first varsity game where he had the opportunity to play alongside his brother. The support from his family, including his mom, dad, and even his little sister, played a significant role in encouraging him to pursue basketball despite its ups and downs.
Roy's dedication to the game started at a young age, inspired by his big brother's passion for basketball. Even though his brother would often beat him in their games, Roy learned the valuable lesson of not being afraid to lose. This mindset shaped his approach to the sport, instilling in him the resilience needed to overcome challenges.
