ProActiv Question of the Day: Dave Winfield

September 14, 2018
Dave Winfield was drafted in three pro sports but played only two at the University of Minnesota.

Football. Dave Winfield was drafted by the NFL's Minnesota Vikings despite never playing college football for the Golden Gophers. At Minnesota, he competed only in basketball and baseball—yet his raw athleticism convinced an NFL team to take a chance.

Winfield ultimately chose baseball, where he became a Hall of Famer with 3,110 career hits. But being drafted in the MLB, NBA, and NFL made him one of the most versatile athletes in University of Minnesota history.
