The town of West, Texas, is recovering from a deadly fertilizer plant explosion in April of 2013. As superintendent of the West Independent School District, Dr. Marty Crawford is faced with the challenge of running a successful school district despite having to use several temporary facilities. His leadership and resilience were put to the test in 2013 when a deadly fertilizer plant explosion rocked the town. Instead of attending a football game, Dr. Crawford rushed to help victims and prepare for triage. Despite the devastation, he remained dedicated to providing exceptional education to the students of West. The explosion resulted in the loss of three out of four campuses, but Dr. Crawford's unwavering commitment and the resilience of the staff and students ensured a quality educational experience, whether in temporary or permanent facilities. The district is now rebuilding, with two new campuses scheduled to open in late 2015.
