LeBron James went directly from high school in Akron, Ohio to the NBA, averaging 20 points per game as a rookie and leading Cleveland to the Finals by 2007.
LeBron James displayed NBA-level talent while still at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. College programs recruited him heavily, but everyone knew he was destined for the pros. The Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2003 draft lottery and selected him first overall.
James averaged 20 points per game as a rookie, erasing any doubt about whether he could translate his high school dominance to the professional level. By the 2006-2007 season, he had led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals, fulfilling the promise that made him the most hyped prospect in basketball history.
