Rodrick Pleasant broke California's 100-meter record in 2022 with a blazing time of 10.14 seconds. Before Pleasant's record-setting performance, the mark had stood since 1985 when it was set by Henry Thomas of Hawthorne High School.
California has a rich tradition of producing elite sprinters, and the state record is one of the most competitive marks in high school track and field. Pleasant, who attends Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, was also featured on Sports Stars of Tomorrow for his two-sport excellence.
