September 11, 2020
Brittney Griner became the first girl to dunk in Nimitz High School history as a 6-foot-7 junior.
Brittney Griner stood 6-foot-7 as a high school junior and was still growing. The Aldine Nimitz star in Houston began playing organized basketball just two years before Sports Stars of Tomorrow featured her. Her natural talent accelerated her development rapidly. Griner became the first girl to dunk the ball in Nimitz High School history, and a YouTube clip of the moment spread nationally. College programs from across the country took notice of the generational talent emerging in Texas.
