AJ Dybantsa, Caleb Wilson & Darius Acuff | 2026 NBA Draft Five-Star Feature
Three names keep surfacing at the top of NBA Draft boards, and each one carries a story that goes well beyond the scouting report.
BYU forward AJ AJ Dybantsa has worn the number one label for years — first as the top-ranked recruit in the country, now as a legitimate candidate for the first overall pick. Coaches at USA Basketball took notice not just of his skill set, but of how he handled the weight of that ranking. At 6-foot-9 with a long wingspan, elite ball-handling, and what one evaluator called a "unicorn" combination of scoring and defense, AJ Dybantsaf averaged 25.5 points per game in his lone collegiate season. He describes his approach simply: "I'm simple and efficient and effective."
Caleb Wilson's path to the top of draft boards ran through Holy Innocents in the Atlanta area, but it started with a kid who was, by his own admission, bad at almost every sport he tried. Growing up in Georgia, Wilson struggled to control a tall, wiry frame that seemed to grow faster than he could manage. The turning point wasn't a single moment — it was a process, one he says still fuels him, including the memory of sitting on a bench for an entire game at a national tournament. At North Carolina, the 6-foot-10 freshman averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds in 24 games before an injury ended his season. His high school coach called him the best player he'd seen in Georgia since Lou Williams, and the best passing big man he'd ever seen at any level.
Darius Acuff grew up in Detroit learning the game from his father, playing up against older competition as young as age seven. A move to IMG Academy sharpened his discipline — in the weight room, in the classroom, and in his daily habits. At Arkansas, playing for John Calipari, Acuff averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 assists per game, sparking a conversation about whether he's the best guard Calipari has ever coached — a list that includes John Wall and Derrick Rose. Now a projected top-ten pick, Acuff is focused on becoming one of the rare players to carry Detroit to the NBA stage.
